Wednesday, June 15, 2011 — Rommie James Austin, 86, of 411 S. 4th St.,
Apt. 5B, Albemarle, passed away on June 13 at Stanly Regional Medical
Center in Albemarle.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
The graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at
Aquadale Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Smith will officiate the
services. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV,
Chapter 12.
Mr. Austin was born in Stanly County on April 9, 1925, to the late John
Clarence Austin and the late Minnie Mauldin Austin. Austin and the late
Minnie Mauldin Austin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Pauline Poplin

Austin, in 2003. He is survived by sons, Robin R. Austin of Albemarle, Douglas Austin of Aquadale; daughters, Sandra Lambert of Albemarle, Linda Poplin of
Aquadale; sister, Mary Ruth Crisco of Albemarle; six grandchildren and
eight great-grand-children.
Mr. Austin served in the US Army, 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment
attached to the 82nd Airborne during the European Campaign. He served in
France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. He was a past deacon at West
Oakboro Baptist Church and was a vault cashier for Wells Fargo Armor
Service.

Rommie enlisted at Ft Bragg, NC on 14 Aug 1943.
After completion of jump school he was assigned to Company E, 508th.
Pfc Austin participated in the combat jump into
Holland and was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the
Holland campaign and Airborne operations..
