EDWIN H. BAKAL

Grave marker of Edwin H. Bakal in Section 3A, Site 2515 of the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale (Suffolk county), New York

Edwin enlisted in the Army at Tipton, IN and was assigned to Company H, 508th. 

Pvt Bakal was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.  In addition, he earned the Purple Heart when wounded in Belgium on 29 December 1944.

Sgt Bakal re-enlisted on 10 November 1945.

New York to Le Havre
returning to Europe, Edwin shelled out $185 for passage to France (line 8) in Feb 1950 aboard the USS Washington

Bremerhaven to New York
in what was at least his second east to west Atlantic crossing, Edwin returned to the U.S. with wife Anna and son Harald (lines 1 - 3). They sailed aboard the USNS Geiger (A-TP 197) arriving in NY Harbor on 11 May 1954
