RAY L. BARNHART

S.S. President McKinley manifest shows a departure date of 16 January 1929 Hong Kong, China with arrival 6 February 1929 in San Francisco, CA.

Ray L. Barnhart, listed as age 5 years, 2 months, was in the company of his parents for the voyage.   The 1930 Census indicated that his father, also named Ray, was an oil field worker.

Their final destination was Long Beach, CA necessitating their transfer to a second ship to complete the journey from San Francisco.

Ray was listed as a member of the Junior Varsity football team in the 1941 edition of the Long Beach Polytechnic High School yearbook "Caerulea" but his photo was not included.

He enlisted in the Army at Los Angeles, CA on 11 January 1943 and on 7 August 1943 Pvt Barnhart was transferred from the Parachute School, Fort Benning, GA to Hq 3rd Battalion, 508th PIR at Camp Mackall, NC.

On 11 December 1944 Pvt Barnhart was transferred to Company G where he was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 14 January 1945.

On 2 February 1945 Pfc Barnhart was hospitalized as a non-battle casualty, perhaps the victim of frostbite.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device.

Ray died on 4 February 2000 in Long Beach (Los Angeles), CA but his final resting place is currently unknown.
