Maurice L. Barr died on 27 April 2017 and is buried in
Saint Boniface Cemetery, Kersey (Elk county), Pennsylvania .
Maurice registered for the draft in St. Mary's PA but the
date was not recorded on his record. He was inducted into the Army at Erie, PA on 5 January 1943.
Pvt Barr was assigned to Service Company 508th PIR,
perhaps as early as January 1943 but the first 7 seven months of the
year are unavailable for that unit.
On 3 September 1943, Pvt Barr was placed on
Detached Service with the 2nd Army Maneuver #3 Camp Forrest, TN although
his return to duty was not recorded.
On 18 February 1944, Pvt Barr was a member of the
Advance Detail sent to England to establish the Nottingham base amp.
They returned to the regiment on 13 March 1944.
Maurice was promoted to Pfc on 23 June 1944. He
was discharged at Indiantown Gap , military reservation, PA on 19
December 1945.
On 1 February 1950,
Maurice submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans
Bonus. He was credited with 12 months of domestic duty and 24
months of foreign service which yield a $360 bonus payment. |
