JOHN T. M. BARRY

Grave marker for John T. M. Barry in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Yonkers (Westchester county), New York.

John enlisted in the at New York City, NY on 26 October 1942.  He was assigned to Hq 2nd, 508th PIR.

Pfc Barry was promoted to Corporal on 17 August 1944

On 17 September 1944 Cpl Barry was listed as #3 on the stick for Chalk 65 for the Market Garden jump.  He was wounded in action on 1 October 1944 and returned to duty on 16 November but was transferred to Service Company for light duty.  He was subsequently transferred back to Hq 2nd on 9 December 1944.

Cpl Barry was evacuated as a non-battle casualty on 12 January 1945 but rejoined the company 4 days later.

SSgt Barry was transferred to the 14th Replacement Depot  on 11 October 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.
