EARL BEATTY

DR. EARL BEATTY JR.
   Fort Valley - Dr. Earl Beatty Jr., 92, died Monday, November 26, 2012. Services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Fort Valley Presbyterian Church, 207 Central Central Ave. in Fort Valley [GA] with Rev. Susan Susan Alley officiating. Family will greet friends from 10:00AM until service time. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home, 10355 Commerce Street in Summerville with burial with military honors following in Summerville City Cemetery.
   Born in Summerville to the late Earl Beatty Sr. and Addie Willard Beatty, Dr. Beatty was a graduate of Darlington School and Emory University School of Dentistry where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
   A Veteran of World War II, he served in the Army as Regimental Dental Surgeon of the 508th Parachute Infantry which saw combat in Europe and served as General Eisenhower's Honor Guard at USFET Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany after the war ended in 1945.
   After World War II, he remained in the Reserves and was transferred to the Air Force where he remained active until his retirement in 1973 with the rank of Colonel. He had been active during the Korean and Vietnam wars and had over thirty years of military service.
   Dr. Beatty practiced dentistry for over forty years. He was a Life Member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Central Dental Society, in which he served as president in 1967. He was also active in the Georgia Academy of General Dentistry and received the Honorable Fellow Award in 1969. He was a Mason, Shriner, an elder in the Fort Valley Presbyterian Church and participated in many other civic organizations.
   He is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Rackley Beatty and second wife, Nita Wilder Graham Beatty. Survivors include his son, Earl Beatty III and wife Nilda, daughter, Jean B. Sutter, stepson, James E. Graham, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
   The family wishes to express special appreciation to his caregivers at home, Thelma and Otis "Joe" Gibson. In lieu of flowers, donations donations may be made to Darlington School, 1014 Cave Spring Road, Rome, GA 30161, The American Camellia Camellia Society, 100 Massee Lane Road, Fort Valley, GA 31030, or Fort Valley Presbyterian Church, 207 Central Central Ave., Fort Valley, GA 31030. Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley is in charge of arrangements.
