DANIEL L. BECKHAM

Record of Interment and grave marker for for Daniel L. Beckham in Section 2B, Site 1719 of the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno (San Mateo county), California.

Daniel enlisted in the Army at Butte, MT on 22 October 1942 and was sent to Fort Douglas, Utah.

On 2 November 1942 Pvt Beckham arrived at Camp Blanding, FL and joined Company D, 508th PIR.

Pvt Beckham made the jump into Normandy on D-Day and was captured that same day.  He was held as a prisoner of war until he was liberated from Stalag 4B after the cessation of hostilities,

Note that his interment record shows he was last assigned to the 9206th Military Police Detachment/Technical Service company.

At that time this MP unit was apparently posted to Fort McDowell on Angel Island, in San Francisco Bay, a location convenient to Beckham's nearby home in Oakland, VA.  The posting may have been for administrative purposes only while he received medical checkups prior to his discharge on 9 October 1945.
