MELVIN H. BEETS

Melvin H. Beets

Son of Benjamin and Jewell Stubbs Beets. Melvin was a U.S. Army WW II veteran and received five Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster and was also a prisoner of war. After living in Alaska, he moved to Lompoc in 1963 and was a self-employed owner and businessman for 15 years at Holser and Bailey Appliance.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and brothers, Frank Beets, Gene Beets and Ken Beets.

(NOTE: the reference to Melvin having received "five Bronze stars" undoubtedly is an inadvertent confusion of the four Bronze Campaign Star devices worn on the EAME ribbon and the Bronze Star Medal he received post-war as the holder of a Combat Infantryman Badge.)
