STEPHEN C. BEGELL

Grave marker for Stephen C. Begell in the Hope Cemetery, Corning (Steuben county), NY

Stephen enlisted in the Army at Corning, NY on 20 Feb 1940 and was a member of Co H, 102nd Medical Regiment.  On 27 January 1942, his unit was activated and he was transferred to Co E, 134th Medical Regiment.

Shortly thereafter, he apparently volunteered for parachutist duty abed was assigned to the 507th PIR and graduated from parachutist school.

On 16 October 1942 Pfc Begell was amongst those transferred to the 508th as a Cadre team. He was assigned to Service Company and remained in that unit throughout WWII.

Pfc Begell was awarded the Combat Infantryman badge for action during the Ardennes campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945.

He was discharged on 6 September 1945.
