WALTER A. BRANDT

[courtesy of "Barb"]

Grave marker for Walter A. Brandt in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton (Harvey county), Kansas.

Walter enlisted in the Army at Ft Leavenworth, KS on 20 June 1942.  Sgt Brandt was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR from 82nd Airborne Division headquarters on 3 October 1944.

On 10 January 1945 Sgt Brandt was hospitalized as a non-battle casualty, perhaps due to frostbite. He returned to duty on 8 March 1945.

Walter remained in the service and retired as a Master Sergeant.

His military decorations include the Combat Infantrymen Badge for action during the Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.  The award was made in the 508th General Order 8 and apparently reflects his service prior to his transfer to the regiment.
