Mr. Brooks was a
native of Iron City, having lived most of his adult life in Palm
Beach County, Fla. He moved to Jones County in 2000. He was the
son of Brewster and Carrie Bell Brooks.
He was a veteran
of WWII, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S.
Army. He fought in the Battle of Normandy, where he earned the
Purple Heart and the Bronze Arrowhead.
After the war he
worked for the Palm Beach Sheriff's Department and was
superintendent of the Palm Beach County Road Department.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Louise Jackson Brooks of
Haddock; daughter, Kathleen Greene of Milledgeville; son, Jimmy
Dale Brooks of Ponce de Leon, Fla.; sister, Lennie Rhoden of
Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.

George enlisted at Ft McPherson, Atlanta, GA;
on 21 November 1942. He was seriously wounded in action on
5 July 44 in Normandy.
