MELBOURNE L. BRUMFIELD
MELBOURNE L. BRUMFIELD Melbourne L. Brumfield, 82, of Laurel,
died Monday, May 27, 2002, at South Central Regional Medical Center
in Laurel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, at Memory
Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Crestview Cemetery in
Laurel. The Rev. Ken Regan will officiate.
A retired accountant, he
retired as a first lieutenant with the 82nd Airborne and served
during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star
and the Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was a member of Highland Baptist Church
in Laurel. He was past commander of the American Legion and was a
member of the VFW and the 40 et 8. He was a Mason and a Shriner
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Otis L. and Annie Hall
Brumfield, and one brother, Hall Brumfield. He is survived by his
wife, Dean Brumfield of Laurel; one son, Mel L. Brumfield of
Meridian; one daughter, Martha Roth of Clinton; three brothers, Lacy
Brumfield of Tylertown, Wyatt Brumfield of Laurel and O.L. Brumfield
of Anderson, S.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chad Brumfield, David Belk, Jason Roth, Mickey
Roth, David Poythress and Walt Leggett. Honorary pallbearers will be
the McDonald coffee buddies. Donations may be made to a favorite
charity. Visitation will begin at noon today, at Memory Chapel
Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements. |

Lt. Brumfield served
as a platoon leader and the executive officer for Company E.
He was wounded in action on 5 July 44 in Normandy.
