WILLIAM HENRY BRUSHWOOD

Retired Army Sgt. Maj. William Henry Brushwood, 76, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.  

Mr. Brushwood was a retired Special Forces sergeant major with more than 25 years of service in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam, was a Turkish linguist and received Thai Royal Jump Wings, the Master Parachutist Badge, Bronze Star Medal for Valor, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, CIB and Ranger TAB and was a member of Chapter 1-18, Special Forces Association. 

Services with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in JFK Chapel on Fort Bragg, with Chaplain Roy Hill and Chaplain Charles D. Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Brushwood is survived by his wife, Dokmai; daughters, Siripon Brushwood, Carol and Casandra; brothers, Richard, Donald and Robert; sister, Beverly Jenkins; three grandchildren; longtime Special Forces brother, Bill Schrader; three dogs; and four cats.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603.
