EDWARD R. BUCEK

Grave marker for Edward R. Bucek in Saint Marks Cemetery, McKees Rocks (Allegheny county), Pennsylvania.

Edward enlisted in the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 4 August 1942.  After completion of basic training and jump school, he was sent to the 82nd Airborne Division in Leicester, England.

On 8 September 1944 Cpl Bucek  was transferred to Company G, 508th PIR.  Nine days later he participated in the jump into Holland as part of Operation Market-Garden.

Cpl Bucek was listed as slightly wounded in action on 25 September 1944.  He was evacuated and following a month of recuperation, rejoined the company on 21 October 1944.

Cpl Bucek's military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for his role in the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.
