JO E. BURLESON

Grave marker for Jo E. Burleson in Section 53 Site 57 of the Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver (Denver), Colorado.

Jo enlisted at Lubbock, TX on 26 July 1940 and was initially in the Cavalry but later volunteered for parachutist duty. After completion of jump school he was assigned to Company B, 508th PIR.

Pfc Burleson made the jump into Normandy on D-0Day, 6 June 1944 and was wounded in action that same day.

He was awarded the Purple Heart for that wound and the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.

Jo also served during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Specialist 5.(Sergeant).
