GEORGE D. CALLARIK

George D. Callarik October 06, 1927 - March 24, 2017

   George David Callarik, 89, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Friday, March 24, 2017 at Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV. He was born October 6, 1927 in Bridgeport, OH, a son of the late Frank and Helen (Kirajupichel) Callarik.

   He retired from Ohio Ferry Alloy of Brilliant, OH and was past co-owner of Valley View Nursing Home, Colerain Pike, Martins Ferry.
   George was enlisted in the US Army from 1945 to 1947 and served with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Frankfurt, Germany. After retirement his great joy was cutting his many acres of grass and his deep political discussions.

   George was the rock and foundation of his family and will be missed not only by his family, but by all who knew him.

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice L. (Calhoun) Callarik, his son, George M. Callarik, his granddaughter, Kristin Lee Callarik and his brothers, Joseph, Frank, Alex, and Steve Callarik.

   Surviving are his daughters; Karen (Randy) Meszaros of Martins Ferry, Cookie (Gene) Agin of Kissimmee, FL, Theresa Bowman of Martins Ferry, and his son Thomas (Deanna) Callarik of Martins Ferry, brother, John Callarik and sister, Anna Clark, seven grandchildren: Jeremy, Randy, Brooke, Shane, Makayla, Collin, and Kyle and 12 great grandchildren; Gavin, Mason, Reed, Cash, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Layla, Trevor, James, Jennivieve, John and Juliet, and a great-great grandson on the way.

   Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, Monday 2-4pm and 6-8 pm and Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Colerain with Rev. Timothy McGuire officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH with military honors presented by the Belmont County Veteran’s Association.

   Wake services will be held Monday at 4:00 PM in the funeral home.
