JAMES R. CALLICUTT

Draft card and grave marker for James R. Callicutt in the Biscoe Cemetery, Biscoe (Montgomery county), North Carolina.

James enlisted in the Army at Ft Bragg, NC on 3 October 1942 and was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR.  He was subsequently transferred to Hq 1st on 2 March 1944 and then returned to Service Company on 31 March 1944.

On 2 Dec 1944 Pvt Callicutt was transferred to the 303rd Station Hospital which had been first formed at Camp Mackall in July 1943 and was now located  in the grounds of the Lilford  Estate in the eastern part of the County of Northamptonshire. 

The Hospital was established in September 1943 in the 100 room Lilford Hall which provided a 750-bed hospital.  After D-Day it was expanded to 1500 beds by erecting 50 fifteen bed tents on the grounds..
