Thomas Edgar Carson, Jr. GASTONIA, NC - Thomas Edgar Carson, Jr. 89 died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Helen Smith Carson; 2 daughters, Barbara C. Smith and husband Henry R. of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Libby C. Todd and husband Kenneth F. of Gastonia; 4 grandchildren, Marianne S. and husband Dr. John B. Goolsby of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jennifer S. and husband Shawn A. Wienke of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Martha T. and husband Justin A. Edge of Gastonia and Michael K. Todd of Greenville, SC; 4 great granddaughters, Carson Goolsby, Caroline Goolsby, Mackenzie Edge and Emma Wienke. He is also survived by a brother, Walton Whitelaw Carson and wife Dorothy R. Carson of Gastonia. Tommy joined the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg and served in the 508th as a paratrooper. He jumped into Normandy on D-Day. He was a faithful member of First A.R.P Church for 64 years. Burial will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at First A.R.P Church on Saturday, July 16 at 1:00. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First A.R.P.
