THOMAS F. CASEY

Thomas F. Casey, age 93, resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on February 19, 2009. He was born February 1, 1916, son to Michael and Mary (Lyons) Casey, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Casey; daughter, Marianne and husband, John Gardner; and grandson, Matthew Gardner. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held February 23, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Vista Verde Memorial Park. Grave marker for Thomas F. Casey in the Vista Verde Memorial Park. Rio Rancho (Sandoval county), New Mexico.

Thomas enlisted in the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 18 May 1942.

On 18 September 1942, after completing Parachute School (C1), T/5 Casey was transferred from the Parachute School to the 508th while remaining attached  to the 507th Prcht Inf pending activation of the 508th Prcht Inf.

He was assigned to Service Company and remained at the grade of T/5 throughout the war.  Based on his grave marker inscription, he later attained the rank of Technical Sergeant.
