ALBERT K. CENNA

Grave marker for Albert K. Cenna in Section 23, Monongahela Cemetery, Braddock Hills (Allegheny county), Pennsylvania.

Albert enlisted in the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 27 April 1942.  He later volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to Hq 1st, 508th PIR although the date of his arrival is not known.

On 17 August 1943 Pvt Cenna was placed on Special Duty with the  Casual Detachment and then on the 23rd he was transferred to Camp Patrick Henry, VA.  The gaining organization was not named but that camp was home to a number of infantry units.

Based on his grave marker Albert was transferred to the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion and saw combat where he earned the Purple Heart.

  On 19 May 1945 Albert was processed for discharge from Army by Unit B, Separation Center #45, Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, PA.  He made application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus on 17 January 1950 and was awarded $500 for his service which included 24 months of overseas duty.
