JOSEPH P. CERNY

Joseph "Joe", age 93, passed away on Friday at Waunakee Manor. He was born to Wencel & Anna (Edl) Cerny.

Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division.

He married Catherine Steder on July 10, 1948. They spent 57 wonderful years together. He was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Joe and Catherine enjoyed 15 years of retirement in Zephyrhills, FL, before moving to Waunakee, WI, to be closer to family.

Joe is survived by his sons, Arnold (Nancy) Cerny of Plainfield, WI, and Joe (Deb) Cerny of North Carolina; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Ramsay of Iowa, Sarah (Ben) Weber of Portage, WI, Shelley (Gary Gerlinger) Cerny of California, and Katie (James) Wilmot and Stacy (Ronnie) Sharpe, both of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Cooper Wilmot, Chloe Sharpe and Lily Sharpe of North Carolina, Gianna Ramsay of Iowa, and Berkley Weber of Portage; and many special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and an infant son, James.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Monona, with Father John Meinholz officiating. Joe's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Waunakee Manor for their care and support over the years. Memorials may be made in Joseph's name to the Catholic Charities - Earthquake Relief Fund, P.O. Box 44892, 702 S. High Point Road, Madison, WI 53744-6550. Ryan Funeral Home and Cremation Services assisted with arrangements.
