Charles R. Cheskiewicz, 83, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2013, at his home. Charlie was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Swoyersville. His parents were the late Peter and Elizabeth (Krupinski) Cheskiewicz of Simpson Street, Swoyersville. Charlie graduated from Swoyersville High School in 1948, where he excelled in football. Upon graduation he became a paratrooper with the 509th Airborne Infantry Regiment. After his honorable discharge, he worked with his brothers locally for Sordoni Industries as a cable splicer. In 1953 he met his wife of 59 years, Marie Zavada, and was married in 1954 at St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston, by the late Monsignor Joseph Super. In 1955 he and his wife moved to Buffalo, NY, for a position with Bell Telephone. He eventually transferred back to Wyoming in 1966, where he worked until his retirement, completing 37 years of service in 1991. Whenever there was a storm (rain or snow), Bell would call, sending him out on trouble calls traveling as far as State College, Williamsport, Montrose, Stroudsburg and even Florida to restore phone service as fast as possible. He climbed telephone poles with spikes on his boots and a belt around the pole. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association and an active member of the Cosmopolitan Club in Exeter. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth; along with brothers, William, Michael, Joseph, Henry John and Leonard Cheskiewicz; sisters, Eleanor (Dorothy) Nulton, Elizabeth Kotulski and Veronica Kotarski; and his daughter-in-law, Sharon (Bogumil).	Charlie is survived by his wife, Marie; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles J, Dallas; Allan and Rita (Bath) Dallas; and Craig and Marie (Anthony), Wyoming; his grandchildren; Alan James (AJ), Cheskiewicz 14, 2013 Megan, Ryan, Britney, Matthew and Brianna; numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie is also survived by his last remaining sibling, his sister, Bernadine Mrochko, Chase. Charlie's most cherished part of life was enjoying his grandchildren. He spent numerous hours watching, playing and teaching his grandchildren and making memories they'll cherish forever Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza. Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave. , Wyoming, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 1670 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with the Rev. Joseph Sibilano officiating. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Brook Street, Swoyersville. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc. It promotes the human rights and their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetime.
