John registered for the draft in Youngstown, OH o 16 October 1940 and ws inducted into the Army at Akron, OH on 2 August 1954.

Coltz was evacuated to a field hospital in January 19454.  His diagnosis was :"Condition due to reduced temperature: Trench foot, Causative Agent: Cold; Medical Treatment: Penicillin therapy."

He was returned to duty the following month.

.SSgt Coltz appeared in the 508th 3rd Anniversary book photo of men recently arrived in Co H.  Specific date o arrival is not known.

On 3 January 1946 SSgt Coltz (see line 4) arrived in New York, NY from Southampton, England aboard the Queen Mary.  He was discharged two weeks later on 17 January 1946.
