Coppersmith was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR on 3 October
1944. He was transferred to Company on 22 November 1944.
He was listed as wounded in action on 31 December 1944 and evacuated to
a field hospital. He returned to the company on 13 February 1945.
He was promoted to Pfc on 1 March 1945. Already
the recipient of the Purple Heart, he was awarded the Combat
Infantryman Badge for action during campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb
1945.
Pfc Coppersmith re-enlisted multiple times including a
transition to the US Air Force. His final discharge date was 31 May 1969
at the rank of Staff Sergeant. |
