Grave marker for Fred J. Corson in the Veterans Field of Honor, Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery (Montgomery county), Alabama.

Fred enlisted in the Army at Williamsport, PA on 23 February 1940 and earned a co9mmission shortly thereafter.

On 18 august 1941 2nd Lt. was awarded the Parachutists Badge under HQ Provisional Parachute Group, Special Order 43 and was isted as member of 502nd Parachute Battalion.

On 1 October 1942, Capt. Corson as named on Special Order No. 1, 508th PIR  as the Regimental Parachute Maintenance Officer.  special Order 18 issued on the 16th of October lasted him as a cadre member transferring from the 507th PIR.

On 31 January 1950, Fred submitted an application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus. He listed his wife and 4 children with the home of record at his parents address in Williamsport, PA.  Captain Corson, however, was stationed with the Army in Stuttgart, Germany. Since he was overseas, Fred had to have a letter attesting to his service record and it was submitted by a Lt Col Salisbury

But his family fad already ollowed him almost a year earlier as on 26 March 1949, his wife and 4 children sailed from New York City to Bremerhaven, Germany aboard the USAT General Alexander W. Patch.
