Grave marker for James W. Critcher in Section F, Claquato Cemetery, Chehalis (Lewis county), Washington.

 

James registered for the draft in Bend, OR on 16 October 1940 and was inducted into the Army at Portland, OR on 24 June 1942.

Following basic training at Camp Roberts, Pvt Critcher volunteered for parachutist duty.

Redmond Men At Fort Benning
  
Redmond, Oct. 21 Lee Reynolds, who received his wings during the summer in California, has been transferred to Fort Benning, Ga. Lee is the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Reynolds of this place. James Critcher, also of Redmond, has been transferred from Camp Roberts, Calif., to Fort Benning, Ga., and has been accepted for training in the paratroops. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Critcher.

Pfc Critcher was transferred from the 551st PIR to Company A, 508th PIR on 7 February 1945 and then to Company B on February 13th.

.His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Southern France Campaign and Airborne Operations.
