BILLY M. CROW

[courtesy of Tom Brocher]

Grave marker for Billy M. Crow in Section U, Site 3261 of the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno (San Mateo county), California.

Billy enlisted at in the Army at San Francisco, CA on 28 November 1942 and was assigned to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR.

Pvt Crow was declared as a qualified parachutist on 12 March and appointed to the rank of Pfc on 16 April 1943.

On 29 May 1943, the last day of maneuvers held at Camp Croft, SC, Pfc Crow was admitted to a hospital.  This was presumably the post hospital at Camp Croft.

Pfc Crow was reduced to the grade to Pvt on 2 August 1943 and he was transferred to the 26th Infantry Division at Camp Campbell, KY as of 24 September 1943.

But, based on the grave marker inscription,  he apparently was later transferred to the 506th and saw combat action receiving the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
