DONALD G. CUNNINGHAM

Grave markers for Donald G. Cunningham in the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet (Starke county), Indiana.

Donald enlisted in the Army on 2 November 1942 and after training with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, jumped into Normandy on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

He was initially reported as MIA (Missing In Action) that same day but later it was determined that he had been wounded and was in a field hospital.  He returned to the unit and was wounded a second time on 3 July 1944

Donald's military decorations include the Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Service Arrowhead for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944 and the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944
