EDWARD J. CURTIS

Grave marker for Edward J Curtis in Plot: 14, 0, 734 of the  Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith (Sebastian County), Arkansas.

Edward enlisted at Manchester, NH; on 7 October 1943 and after completion of basic training and jump school was sent overseas.  He was transferred to Company A, 508th PIR from the 11th Replacement Depot while the 508th was rebuilding its strength following Normandy losses.

He was wounded in Holland on 2 October 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital,  A month and a half later he was deemed fit to travel and was sent back to the U.S. for further treatment.  He did not return to the regiment.

Pvt Curtis was awarded the Purple Heart as well as the Bronze Service Arrowhead for his participation in the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.  He also earned the Good Conduct Medal and various other ETO related decorations.
