RAYMOND P. DALESSANDRO

Draft record for Raymond P. Dalessandro of Philadelphia, PA

Raymond enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 28 July 1942.

Pvt Dalessandro was transferred from the 509th PIR to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 4 February 1945.  Just 2 days later, he was wounded in action and evacuated to an aid station.  He returned to duty on 6 February 1945 after a single day of absence..

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device which was mistakenly awarded twice.

General Order 309, issued on 17 July 1945 awarded the device for the Southern France Campaign and Airborne Operations.  General Order 34, dated 9 August 1945,  recognized him for the Anzio campaign and amphibious operations.  Since the arrowhead device is a one-time decoration, the award was most valid for the Anzio campaign as it was the earlier operation of the two.

Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus application submitted by Raymond P. Dalessandro on 11 February 1950.

He was credited with 12 months of domestic duty and 28 months of foreign service and was awarded the full $500 bonus.

He was discharged at Unit B Separation Center, Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, PA
