Raymond enlisted in the Army at
Philadelphia, PA on 28 July 1942.
Pvt Dalessandro was transferred from
the 509th PIR to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 4 February 1945. Just 2 days
later, he was wounded in action and evacuated to an aid station.
He returned to duty on 6 February 1945 after a single day of absence..
His military decorations include the
Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device which was
mistakenly awarded twice.
General Order 309, issued on 17 July
1945 awarded the device for the Southern France Campaign and Airborne
Operations. General Order 34, dated 9 August 1945,
recognized him for the Anzio campaign and amphibious operations.
Since the arrowhead device is a one-time decoration, the award was most valid for the
Anzio campaign as it was the earlier operation of the two. |
Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus application submitted by Raymond P.
Dalessandro on 11 February 1950. He was credited
with 12 months of domestic duty and 28 months of foreign service and was
awarded the full $500 bonus.
