VERNON L. DARLING

Grave marker for Vernon L. Darling in Montague Cemetery, Montague (Siskiyou county), California.

 

Vernon registered for the draft in Oakland, CA on 16 October 1940 and was inducted into the Army at San Francisco, CA on 11 May 1942.

His earliest known mention in the 508th was on a roster of names and home addresses for men in Hq 3 at APO 757 [Frankfurt], as of 23 September 1945 but his actual arrival occurred as early as June 1945 when morning reports are available for the remaindfr4 of 1945.

T5 Darling appeared in the 508th's 3rd Anniversary book photo of men recently arrived in Co I published on 20 October 1945.

On 6 January 1946, T5 Darling arrived in New York, NY aboard SS Algic from Antwerp, Belgium.  He was destined for the Separation Center No. 42 at Camp Beale, CA (now Beale Air Force Base) for out processing.
