GEORGE L. DAWALD

George L. Dawald, Jr., 83, of rural Roann, Indiana died at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born December 31, 1924 in Miami County, Indiana to George L. and Mary Floy (Gray) Dawald, Sr.

He married Betty Lou Conner in Indianapolis on February 29, 1948.

In 2004, they were awarded the Hoosier Homestead Award for having a farm in the same family 100 years. George was a 1942 graduate of Gilead High School. He was a farmer, a real estate salesman and broker, and co-owner of Dawald Realty in Peru.

He was a US Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper with the 81st [sic] and 101st Airborne Divisions stationed in Europe, during World War II. He was a member of the Wabash American Legion and the Macy Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Dawald of Roann; daughter, Mary Lou (Ron) Scholz of Crawfordsville, Indiana; son, Timothy George Dawald of Roann; granddaughter, Haley Scholz of Crawfordsville; sister, Marigold Lowe of Twelve Mile, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick Dawald, who died in 2004, and Marx Dawald who died in 1977.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 335 S. Chippewa Road, Roann at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2008. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery, rural Miami County. Friends may call, 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the Roann Fire Department.
