DUANE A. DENNISON

Grave marker for Duane A. Dennison in the Marshville Cemetery in Marshville (Harrison County), West Virginia.

Duane was the son of Carl and Fannie Dennison of Salem, WV.  He enlisted in the Army on October 17, 1942 at Ft. Thomas in Newport, Kentucky and volunteered for parachutist duty.  He was assigned to the 508th PIR at Camp Blanding when the unit was just been forming.

Pvt Dennison parachuted into Normandy on June 6 1944 (D-Day).  Later as a Tec/4 and squad leader he jumped into Holland on September 17 1944 where he won the Bronze Star Medal (read citation) for action near Bemmel, Holland.  He was awarded the BSM a second time although the date and circumstances are unknown.
