EUPHEMON DEROUEN

Funeral services for Mr. Euphemon "Jack" Derouen, Jr., 76, will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in United Pentecostal Church of Lydia. Reverends Andrew Hebert, A.L. Lyle, and Harlen Morgan will officiate. Interment will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery, Jeanerette.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 from 2:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. in David Funeral Home of New Iberia, and will continue on Friday from 8:00 A.M. until service time in the funeral home.

Mr. Derouen passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 6:33 P.M. in a New Iberia hospital.

A native of Weeks Island, Mr. Derouen was a lifelong resident of Lydia. He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army, during which time he met and married the love of his life, the former Nona Clark, in Tennessee. Upon leaving the Army, Mr. Derouen returned to Louisiana with his bride. He worked at the Morton Salt Company as a hoistman for 38 years. When he was a younger man, Mr. Derouen enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting, and he loved to eat oranges.

 

Mr. Derouen was a charter member of United Pentecostal Church of Lydia, having helped build the church and for which he served as an elder. He was a generous Christian man, often repairing appliances at no charge for those in need. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Nona Clark Derouen of Lydia; son, Tim DeRouen of Lydia; daughter, Patti Corley and husband, Kevin of Cypress, TX; sister, Josie Pinell and husband, Ronald of Baldwin; grandchildren, Casey Al Hammadi and husband, Jasim of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Natalie Corley of Cypress, TX, and Derek DeRouen of Bayou Jack; and special niece, Joann Broussard of Charenton.

Preceding Mr. Derouen in death were his parents, Euphemon Derouen, Sr. and Cecile Guidroz Derouen; brother, Raymond Derouen, Sr.; and sisters, Gracie Suiter and Lorraine Derouen.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Corley, Derek DeRouen, Ronald Pinell, Jr., Hung Nguyen, Kauby LaBiche, and Anthony Pinell.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter Street, 369-6336 is in charge of arrangements.
