James registered for the draft in Philadelphia, PA on 16 October 1940 and in 1942 he married Alfreda J McLaughlin in Philadelphia.  He was inducted into the Army at New Cumberland, PA on 31 May 1944.

On 3 October 1944, Pfc Dickson was transferred from the 504th PIR to Company I, 508rh PIR. He was discharged on 4 June 1946.

 

James applied for the PA WWII Veterans Bonus on 17 January 1950.  He was credited with 8 months of domestic duty and 13 months of foreign service yielding a $275 bonus award.
