GEORGE E. DONOHUE

Grave marker for George E. Donohue in the Shadow Lawn Memory Garden, Newell (Hancock County), WV

George enlisted in the Army on 30 March 1943 in Akron, OH,  He volunteered for parachutist duty and after completion of jump school he was assigned to the 508th PIR.

Pvt Donohue participated on the jump into Normandy and was taken captive.  He was held as a POW until mid-1945 when he was liberated from Stalag 4F + Work Camps Hartmannsdorf-Chemnitz Saxony 51-12.

On 12 June 1945, Pvt Donahue was aboard the USS Admiral W. S. Benson (MOVEMENT ORDERS GROUP RO 1049-2-B) when it arrived in New York City Harbor (see line 83)
