Michael enlisted in the Army at Altoona, PA on 5 January 1943 and was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR.

His first appearance in 508th records listed him as a Pfc in August 1943.  He was promoted to the grade of Corporal on 30 October 1943.

He was discharged from he Army on 20 December 1945 at the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, PA.
