Wagener – Mr. Haywood Bernard
Eagerton, Sr., 89, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 7, 2011.
Mr. Eagerton is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Ruth Blair
Eagerton, children; Bernard (Ann) Eagerton, Jr., Marilyn (Olin) Hutto,
Sue E. Richbourg, Billy Eagerton, and Karen (Bill, IV) Frye, 15
grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Our father will be remembered
as loving, kind, generous and a follower of the Lord. His witness was an
inspiration and example for all.
Mr. Eagerton was born in Tinnille, AL the son of the late William
Woodrow and Callie Estell Henderson Eagerton. He was also predeceased by
sisters; Mary Lois Davenport, Hazel Carswell, Eloise Wildey and Beatrice
Seamon, and brothers; Raymond Eagerton, Kyle Eagerton, R. C. Eagerton
and Ernest Eagerton.
Mr. Eagerton was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne. He was
a member of Bethcar Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School
Teacher, Deacon, and R. A. Leader. Mr. Eagerton worked 17 years at
Atlantic Coastline RR, maintenance at Mattie C. Hall, and retired from
SC WMU, and then worked 7 years for Aiken Co. Recycling.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Wagener Chapel of
Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main St. South, Wagener, SC. The Funeral
Service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Bethcar Baptist Church with the
Rev. Chris Addy officiating. Mr. Eagerton will be placed in the church
one hour prior to the service for viewing. Burial will follow in the
church cemetery with Military Honors.
