for 18-year-pld James Eckard shows he was living in Prioedale (Westmoreland county), Pennsylvania.  His employer was the American Window Glass Co. in Belle Vernon, adjacent to Pricedale.


On June 30, 1950, James submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veteran's Bonus.  Credited with 7 months of domestic duty and 21 months service overseas, he was awarded $385 of a possible $500 due to the abbreviated time in uniform..

Grave marker for James C. Eckard in Plot 39A, Site 137, Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside (Riverside county), California.

James enlisted in the Army at Greensburg, PA on 30 September 1944.

Pvt Eckard was listed in the Company C Morning Reports as missing in action on 6 October 1944. Two days later his status was changed to wounded n action and hospitalized.  He returned to duty with the company on 6 November 1944 and transferred to Service Company for light duty.

Four months later, Cpl Eckard was admitted to the 178th General Hospital, Reims, France as a non battle casualty.  He was transferred to tha hospital's detachment of patients on 25 March 1944 and did not return to the regiment.
