Grave marker for Wayne E. Eckstrom in Veterans Section XIV, Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo (San Mateo county), California.

Wayne initially enlisted in the Army on 30 November 1940.  Pvt Eckstrom  was transferred from the Parachute school to Company I, 508th PIR on 7 August 1943.  According to Veterans Administration records he was released from the Army on 13 July 1944 which may imply he was injured.

His draft record in Grand Rapids, MI was updated on 17 July 1944 which would support that he was released from service.

However, he must have re-enlisted at some point as his graved marker shows he had served with the 5134th PIR and attained the rank of 1st Sgt.
