JENNINGS B. ELLIS

   CONCORD — Mr. Jennings Bryan Ellis Jr (J.B.). 79, of 182 Hahn Place SE Concord, NC, died Tuesday February 15 2000 at his home after a period of declining health.
   A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 18, 2000 at Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis, NC with military rites by the D.A.V. Chapter 27. Rev Brad Simpson will officiate The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home/
   Mr. Ellis was born September 26, 1920 in Roane County, Tennessee, son of the late Jennings B. Ellis Sr and Mary Dove Goddard Ellis. He was employed in Charlotte as an auto mechanic for many years; later, with Cannon Mills Company & Wackenhut Security at Pillowtex Inc as a security officer for the past 16 years.. He was also a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII where he was a SSgt with the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion in the European Theatre of Operations and resident of the area for most of his life. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ellen Jeanette Barrier Ellis whom he married in 1944. She passed away February 15, 1993.
   Survivors include one son Mike Ellis of Concord NC' two brothers Nick Ellis of Harriman TN, Sam Ellis of Harriman TN; two grandsons, Jacob Ellis, Daniel Ellis and one granddaughter Misley Ellis.
   Memorials may be made to: D.A.V. Chapter 27, Honor Guard, PO Box 224, Concord, NC 28026-0224.
  Whitley’s Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Ellis.

Jennings registered for the draft in Harriman, TN on 16 October 1940 and was inducted into the Army at Fort Oglethorpe, GA on 15 July 1941.

On 4 February 1945 Sgt Ellis was transferred from the 551st PIR to Hq/3 508th PIR.

Sgt Ellis was discharged on 8 August 1945.
