Paratrooper Donates
68th Pint of Blood
FT BRAGG, Feb 2 --- Sgt Joe D. Elwood, an 82nd Airborne paratrooper, has donated his 68th pint of blood. His type A2B positive blood is the rarest in the world, according to Womack Army Hospital. Official here who stated that it occurs in only 1 per cent of the population.
Elwood, an "on-call" donor for Womack and three Fayetteville hospitals, has
been called on as often as three times n a single month.
A native of St. John, Mich., Elwood is married and now lives in
Fayetteville with his wife and three children. [News Article

North Carolina.
Joe enlisted in the Army on 10 September 1948. He
served during the Korean Conflict in Service Company, 508th ARCT from
1951-1954. He also served in Vietnam.
On 8 March 1961, he married Catherine Raynor Barrett in
Harnett, North Carolina. |
