Wentworth P. Emmons enlisted at Los Angeles, CA on 7
October, 1943.
Following the completion of jump school Pvt Emmons was
was shipped overseas. On 30 July 1944 he was one of many
replacement troops transferred to the 508th to fill vacancies generated
by the Normandy campaign.
Pvt Emmons took part in the jump into Holland and on
21 September 1944 he was listed as seriously injured in action and
evacuated to a field hospital. After treatment he rejoined the
company on 10 October 1944.
However, he had lingering effects and was repeatedly
hospitalized during the next few months. On 16 April 1945 he was
transferred to a hospital in the U.S. for further treatment and
was discharged from the Army on 5 May 1945.
Wentworth died in Dade County, FL on 132 March 1971.
His final resting place has not yet been located. |
After the war, Wentworth apparently developed a taste for,
and a career in, art as an auctioneer and dealer. He became a
frequent, and well-to-do, traveler to Europe and was often accompanied
by his wife and sometimes by their children and even with a governess.
He sailed in First Class cabins and flew various air routes when
international air travel was a new, and expensive, means of travel
