HARRY D. ERNST
HAMBURG - Harry D. Ernst, 84, died at Newton Medical Center on Saturday June 18, 2011. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harry H. and Kathryn (Jeffards) Ernst. He had been a resident of Sussex County for the past 10 years and prior to that had resided in Sapphire, N.C. A proud United States Army veteran, he served in the 101st and 82nd Airborne during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded a Bronze Star. Harry was the president of Sperro Metal Products in Montville, retiring in 1986. Over his many years he was an avid golf player. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Marianna Bocchicchio. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary (Maine) Ernst; his sons, Robert Ernst and his wife, Gina, of Newfoundland, Stephen Ernst and his wife, Kristina, of Hamburg; a daughter, Kathryn Campbell and her husband, Joe, of Goldsboro, N.C.; brothers, John Ernst of Wall and Eustace Ernst of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his period of visitation Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 75 Church St. Franklin. Final disposition was private.
