VICTOR E. ETTINGER

[courtesy of Beth Quigley O'Brien]

Grave marker for Victor E. Ettinger in Duncannon Union Cemetery, Duncannon (Perry county), Pennsylvania.

Victor enlisted in the Army at Harrisburg, PA on 4 September 1943 and volunteered for parachutist duty.

Following completion of basic training and jump school he departed the U.S, on 5 April 1945.  It is presumed that he arrived at the 508th in Frankfurt, Germany sometime after May 1945 as available Morning Reports end at that point.

On 18 January 1950 Victor completed an application for the Pennsylvania Veterans Bonus and it indicates that he returned to the U.S. on 2 March 1946.

It was at this point that he was able to go home on leave in March, 1945 to visit with his wife and in-laws.  He then "returned" to duty although it didn't state his destination.

He was discharged at Fort Dix, NJ on 23 April 1946.  Little else is known of his service career after other than than his appearance as a member of Company F on 508th General Order 29, issued on 11 July 1945 which awarded him the Good Conduct medal.
