Harry L. Evans

Grave marker for Harry Evans in Fort Jones Cemetery, Fort Jones (Siskiyou county), California.

Harry registered for the draft in Horse Creek, CA on 16 October 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Camp Roberts, CA on 19 June 1940.

Pvt Evans was transferred from the Reception Center, Fort Leavenworth. KS to .Hq Hq, 508th PIR on 17 November 1942 and assigned to the medical detachment.

He was promoted to Tec/5 on 5 January 1945.

T/5 Evans was discharged on 16 November 1945,

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.

Tec/4 Harry L. Evans, Hq Hq was awarded .his parachutist wings on November 6, 1942 as attested to in this diploma signed by Col. Lindquist.

However, there seems to be a discrepancy in the date of the document,   The date is but one month after the unit's activation and the stint of basic training at Camp Blanding was still underway.  The unit did not leave Florida for its jump training phase until February 5, 1943

It should also be noted that Col. Lindquist (as this document is signed) was but a Lieutenant Colonel during the time that the 508th was encamped in Camp Blanding.  Lindquist was a stickler for formalities and would never have signed a certificate that mis-stated his rank.
