EVANS, Philip P., Jr.

Philip P. Evans, Jr., 70, of Manchester, beloved husband of Marcia (Freligh) Evans, died Wednesday, (October 10, 2001) at his home after an extended illness. Born in Windsor, November 13, 1930, son of the late Philip P. Evans and Stella (Koski) Evans of Enfield, he was raised in Windsor and had been a resident of Manchester since 1976. Philip was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, was a life member of the 82nd Airborne Association, and prior to retiring in 1986, had been employed by the City of Hartford in the Parks and Recreation Department for over 30 years. He was a retired special deputy sheriff in Hartford County for the State of Connecticut, and enjoyed fishing, down hill skiing, cooking, and had a love for all animals. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Janean Evans of Coventry; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Ann Evans of Windsor Locks, and James and Mildred Evans of Manchester; two grandchildren, Lyle, Jr. and Alexander Evans; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 13, 10:30 a.m., at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester, with burial to follow. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of CT, Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107 or the Leukemia Society of America, CT Chapter, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.
