GLESTICE E. C. EVITTS

314th Hercules Comes Home
After Round-The-World Trip

   A Sewart C-130 from the 314th TC Wg. returned home last week after a mission around the world which covered 31,300 statute miles.
   The aircraft had left Sewart about Mar. 6 to show aerial extraction methods at air bases from Hawaii to Europe. Its specific ' mission was to demonstrate to Air Force and Army field commander's the operational readiness of Tactical Air Command's new technique for aerial delivery of priority supplies.
   Bases such as Hickam AFB, Hawaii; Naha AB, Okinawa; Osan AB, Korea; Clark AB, Philippines, and Evreux AB, France, were stops for the crew. Along the way, additional stopovers were made at Saigon, South Vietnam; Bangkok, Thailand; New Delhi, India, and Weisbaden, Germany.
   THE FLIGHT was also a good neighbor mission. While in Korea, 34 USAF and R.O.K. generals were given a ride in the mighty Hercules, and a similar ride was given India's Air Vice Marshal during the New Delhi visit. Air Dir commander now at Taiwan, and Col. Edwin Bane, former base commander now at Naha AB, Okinawa.   A total of 122 hours of flying time was recorded on the trip.
   314th personnel making the trip were Captains Edward D. McHalek, aircraft commander, Artis W. Roach, instructor navigator, and Henry B. Van Gieson, project officer; First Lieutenants Robert W. Cole and Robert C. Yates, co-pilots, and Henry Bor-gan, navigator; Technical Sergeants Paul W. Brooks and John L. Ballou, maintenance technicians, and James T. Martin, instructor engineer.
   Staff Sergeants Harold C. Jett and Donald Gordon, maintenance technicians, Claude Moseley, engineer, Glestice Evitts, loadmaster, Thomas E. Sanders, combat controller and Clyde J. Bennett, crew chief; Airmen First Class Richard J. Simmer, Carl D. Queensberry, Glenn M. Hicks and Jerald L. Hidgon, maintenance technicians, Donald R. Canney, scanner, and Archie C. Bryant, loadmaster; A2C James T. Benson, maintenance technician, and A3C John T. Casey, scanner.
   Mr. Richard V. Parker, a technical representative for All American Engineering Co., accompanied the 314th crew.

Grave markers for Glestice E. C. Evitts in Macon County Memorial Gardens, Lafayette (Macon county), Tennessee.

Glestice enlisted in the Army at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC on 30 August 1943.

On 2 August 1944, Pvt Evitts was transferred from the 9th Replacement Depot to Service Company, 508th PIR.

Pvt Evett was promoted from Pvt to Pfc, effective 4 Jan 1945.

Pfc Evitts was transferred to Hq 3rd on 4 April 1944 and was discharged on 26 August 1946.

On 14 July 1951 Glestice enlisted in the Air Force and became a loadmaster on C130 Hercules aircraft,

SSgt Evitts was one of 14 enlisted men to re-enlist at Sewart AFB, Smyrna,, TN between 8 to 18 July 1955.  He continued is Air Force career until retiring on 31 July 1969.
