George enlisted in the army at Los
Angeles, CA on 15 October 1942.
His arrival in Hq 2nd, 508 PIR is nor
recorded but by 3 February 1943, He is listed as a Pfc.
Pfc Fairman was promoted to Cpl on 13
April 193 and then on 10 November 1943=, he was promoted to Sgt.
George made the jump inro Normandy and
on 17 September 1944 he appeared on the loading manifest #15 for
Market Garden stick, Chalk 65, aircraft 42937089AF.
Sgt Fairman was wounded in action on 6
January 1945 and evacuated to a field hospital. On 9 April 1945, still
not recovered, Sgt Fairman was transferred to the hospital's detachment of
patients.
Then on 321 May 1945, Sgt Fairman rejoined
his company when he was transferred from the 10th Reinforcement Depot.
On 11 October 1945, now a SSgt , George
was transferred to the 14th Reinforcement Depot, probably as an expedient
for him to return to the U.S.
His military decorations include the
Purple Heart and the CIB awarded for action during Normandy, France
Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944.
