James A. Farrell was, fittingly, born in
Ft. Bragg in Mendocino county California in 1925.
As a twenty-year old he was in combat in
Belgium with Company H, 508th PIR when he was evacuated to a field hospital
on 11 January 1945. Listed as a "Non Battle Casualty", he was probably
a victim of frostbite. After a lengthy hospitalization, Pvt Farrell
rejoined the company on 30 April 1945
Pfc Farrell returned to the U.S. and
re-enlisted in the Army at Media, PA on 16 November 1945. The 508th
was deactivated eight days later and the remainder of James' service record
is unknown.
James returned to his native California
and died there in Vallejo (Solano county), CA on 30 January 2006. He
was cremated and his ashes were strewn at sea off the coast of San
Francisco. |
